Building a Global Ecosystem for Healthcare Innovation

The BRICS & BRICS+ Biodesign Program is an international collaborative initiative established to advance healthcare innovation through multidisciplinary biodesign, translational research, engineering, and manufacturing collaboration among BRICS & nations.

The Program is being established under the partnership of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India as the Government Partner and the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), India as the Institutional Host. As the Central Coordination Secretariat, AMTZ facilitates international collaboration, knowledge exchange, joint research, cross-border innovation, technology translation, and institutional partnerships across participating BRICS & countries.

The Program brings together clinicians, engineers, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, healthcare providers, industry partners, and governments to identify unmet clinical needs and transform them into affordable, scalable, and impactful healthcare solutions.

Why BRICS & BRICS+?

Healthcare challenges today extend beyond national boundaries and require collaborative solutions that integrate clinical expertise, engineering innovation, scientific research, and advanced manufacturing.

BRICS & nations collectively represent one of the world's largest healthcare markets, a rapidly growing scientific community, and expanding manufacturing capabilities.

The BRICS & Biodesign Program harnesses these collective strengths to foster multidisciplinary collaboration, accelerate innovation, and develop affordable, accessible, and globally relevant healthcare technologies that address shared healthcare challenges.

What Makes Us Unique

Unlike conventional innovation programmes, the BRICS & BRICS+ Biodesign Program integrates the complete healthcare innovation lifecycle within a single collaborative platform.

From identifying unmet clinical needs to engineering, prototyping, testing, regulatory strategy, manufacturing, and commercialization, the Program enables innovators to translate ideas into real-world healthcare solutions through the combined strengths of BRICS & BRICS+ institutions.

The Program combines:

Clinical Excellence

Engineering & Design

Scientific Research

Manufacturing Infrastructure

Regulatory Expertise

Entrepreneurship & Commercialization

International Collaboration

Our Collaborative Model

The BRICS Biodesign Program operates as a distributed international network, connecting leading academic institutions, healthcare organizations, research centres, and industrial ecosystems across participating countries.

Each partner contributes its expertise while benefiting from shared knowledge, faculty exchange, innovation programmes, research collaboration, and manufacturing capabilities, creating an integrated ecosystem that accelerates healthcare innovation beyond national boundaries. The concept note envisages this distributed network with a central coordination secretariat hosted at AMTZ.
